Today, we discover a part of Brooklyn that is new to us, where the houses for obvious reasons are called “Brown Stones”. They remind us of houses in England or the Netherlands. Dino and Maria who so kindly showed us around the UNHQ live in one of these houses and have invited us for brunch.
Their backyard table offers all the delicacies of the local Saturday farmer’s market. Sun-ripe tomatoes, handcrafted cheeses and spreads, a variety of breads and bagels, and homemade banana buttermilk pancakes. We gently slide into this afternoon with a tour of the neighborhood and leave our hosts with an aking heart.
Later that day, we reunite with our French friends in the Upper West Side for a dinner on their roof terrace. Like all Frenchmen, we start with an Apéro, short for Apéritif, which stands for drinking as much white wine and eating as many delicious little niceties as you can before dinner. A wonderful tradition which has become a firm part of our everyday life. It is one of those summer evenings where everything just flows. We are bathing in friendship and our hearts are filled with joy and laughter.
